Laser Gingival Correction

Laser gingival correction is a contactless procedure that gently treats the gums using the directed corrective action of a laser beam.

The beauty of a smile lies not only in beautiful and white dental arches but also in healthy gums. Any pathologies of the soft tissues not only cause aesthetic problems but can also lead to tooth mobility and loss, as well as various dental diseases and a decline in quality of life.

Most patients fear visiting the dentist, delaying their visit until the last moment, assuming pain and prolonged treatment. Today, modern dentistry has advanced significantly, offering innovative methods of gum treatment with lasers, which are fast and painless, as they do not create open tissue damage (under the influence of high temperature, instant coagulation occurs).

Causes of gum pathology

Neither children nor adults are immune to gum disease. For some, it may arise due to external factors, while for others, it may be due to internal negative processes:

It is important to remember that the cause usually involves a complex set of factors.

How laser gingival correction works

Preparation for laser gum correction is a standard procedure. The doctor examines the patient’s oral cavity, collects medical history, studies the data of auxiliary examinations, and consults with related specialists to develop an optimal treatment plan, explaining its advantages to the patient.

The immediate procedure consists of the following stages:

  1. Oral cavity sanitation – cleaning the teeth from soft and hard plaque to prevent re-infection.
  2. Application of photosensitive gel, which begins to actively affect pathogenic bacteria in a few minutes.
  3. Removal of gel residues.
  4. Protecting the patient with special glasses to prevent laser exposure.
  5. Directed treatment of the gums with a beam of laser light without touching the mucous membrane, resulting in the active decomposition of bacteria treated with photosensitive gel (living tissues are not involved in the process), leaving behind a sterile surface.
  6. If necessary, antiseptic and antibacterial agents are applied.
  7. Recommendations are given for home care, and the date of the next visit is scheduled.

After the laser gingival correction procedure, a special protective film remains on the mucous membrane, preventing re-entry of bacteria.

The duration of gum treatment with a laser varies depending on the degree and extent of pathology. On average, the most complex manipulations take no more than one and a half hours, and sometimes only 20-30 minutes. A repeat session may be required. Disease prevention requires regular visits no less than once every 6 months.
